Lush: Easter Goodies

I have to be honest with you all and admit that I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. I prefer salty snacks over chocolate any day, but a bag of chips isn’t very fitting for easter! That being said, a few Lush bath bombs, body wash and some lip scrub are all things that I will enjoy far more than a chocolate easter egg!

Lush: The Dream Team

I’m sure this comes as no surprise to anyone, but winter weather really takes a toll on your skin! These three products from Lush, have been a staple in my skin care routine lately. They are really helping my skin survive the rest of winter!

Skin’s Shangri La: I love how hydrating this moisturizer is. I’ve been using it at night for the last few weeks and so far I love it. My skin is always nice and soft when I wake up in the morning, so it must be doing something right!

Celestial: I love that this moisturizer is a bit on the lighter side. I wear Bare Minerals powder foundation, and I find that if my moisturizer underneath is too heavy it makes my foundation look cakey. Nobody wants that, and this is the perfect amount of moisture for my day time use!

Dark Angels: This scrub is really awesome. I’ve never used a scrub that involved moroccan lava clay before and i’m glad I finally have!  My skin feels awesome and extra clean after using this. It’s also not to harsh which is great, because I have pretty sensitive skin.

Rocky Mountain Soap Co

When it comes to skin care and beauty products, i’m always trying to find the best natural and toxin free products that I can. This can be a tedious task and I use the App think dirty to help me get info about products that I would otherwise be clueless about. There are certain companies that just go ahead and make it so easy for you to find 100% natural products that are safe to use and work just as well as there un natural counter parts. One of those awesome companies is Rocky Mountain Soap Co! I’ve been using a variety of their products lately and I wanted to highlight a few of my favourites!

Body ButterI had no idea that moisturizer on a stick was a thing but let me tell you it’s awesome! It’s really convenient and great travel. I have the vanilla coconut version and it smells amazing! I also looked it up on think dirty just to confirm and it has a a rating of 1 which is awesome!

Face PolishBefore this product, I hadn’t used any kind of face polish. I’ve used a few different types of exfoliating scrubs but nothing like this. I really like the light level of exfoliation that it provides. I also like that I can use it in-between uses of a heavier scrub. I try not to exfoliate everyday because it can be hard on my skin, which is pretty sensitive to begin with, so this product has been a great addition to my skin care regimen!

Face MaskI love doing weekly face masks so i’m always up to try a new one whenever I can. This tea tree mask is my current favourite. I have really sensitive combination skin so i’m always trying to find ways to keep it balanced. I find that cleansing masks work the best for me and are always my favourite!

Lip QuenchI am the biggest fan of this tinted lip balm! It’s seriously one of my favourite products. I prefer more natural lip colours and tints are so perfect for that. I have the Dark Plum shade and it is amazing! It gives my lips just the right amount of colour and it also has a refreshing mint flavour, which is unexpected but awesome!

Organic Raw Honey Lip Gloss

It’s no secret that I love lip gloss, I can’t leave the house without it. This time of year as the weather cools down, it’s even more of an essential part of my beauty regimen.

TruSelf Organics has recently come out with an Organic Raw Honey lip gloss and i’m pretty obsessed with it! It contains a few awesome ingredients including honey and grapefruit oil, which gives it a lovely citrus taste! You can also feel good about the fact that it’s made from all natural and organic ingredients. I like to choose products that are natural whenever I can, especially when it comes to lip care! This gloss can be worn on its own or over matte lipstick to give your lips a nice shine. It’s also very moisturizing, so get the benefits of a balm as well as the shine of a gloss! Check out to try it out for yourself!

Skin Care 101: Cleansing Balm

My skin has been problematic for a little over half my life. Because of this, i’ve tried out a lot of different products to find a solution. Although i’ve gotten used to dealing with it and also pretty good at hiding it, i’m always on the hunt for anything that is going to improve the clarity of my skin.  Recently i’ve been using a cleansing balm to remove makeup and cleanse my skin at night. I’m very used to washing my face with some type of soap and water so this method of cleansing is very new to me.

If you’re not familiar with the oil cleansing method, here’s the basic concept. The method is based on using Castor oil (a heavy oil) as the cleanser. When you massage it into your skin and then steam it out, it helps to loosen up the gunk that builds up and clogs your pores. It does this without stripping away the moisture and irritating the skin, the way synthetic soaps can. Because this method can be messy, MJ over at Soak It! has developed three different balms to help cleanse, tone, moisturize and treat different skin types. I chose the cleansing balm for oily & acne prone skin.

At first it felt a little strange to be rubbing a balm on my face when it’s covered in makeup but i’ve found that it works really well and i’m very happy with the results! The cleansing balm is really easy to use, all it takes is 3 short steps!

Step 1: Remove eye makeup (I like to do this first so that I don’t smear black goop all over my face when i’m massaging in the balm)

Step 2: Take a dime sized amount and massage into dry skin (take extra care in trouble areas).

Step 3: Use a warm wet cloth to steam off balm.

The best part of using this cleansing balm is that it doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight or dry. You don’t have to moisturize when you are done because it leaves your skin already moisturized! Head over to the Soak It! website to try it out for yourself! I would also like to mention that all Soak It! products are all natural and hand made! If you order between now and April 22nd you can use the promo code: Foxy15 for 15% off and also get a $10 flat rate for shipping to Calgary AB!

Festival Inspired Hair Style with Lionesse

lionesse hair

I’ve recently teamed up with Lionesse Beauty Bar to bring you a Festival inspired hair style! To create this look I used 22″ Clip in Extensions , Hair Serum and a 1″ Curling Iron from Lionesse. Right now you can use the discount code “thefoxandfern” for 20% any product at!

It’s pretty simple and easy to get this look. In just a few steps you will have festival ready hair!

Step 1: Apply a small amount of the hair serum to the ends of dry hair. This helps to protect them from the heat of the curling iron. Because my hair is not very thick and I love volume, I try not to add to much because it can end up weighing down my hair. If you don’t have this problem, feel free to use as much as you need!

Step 2: Before you curl your hair make sure you spray it with hairspray, especially if your hair is clean. This will help to hold the curl in your hair longer.

Step 3: To create loose waves instead of tight curls I like to separate my hair into sections about 3″ wide. The smaller the sections are that you curl the tighter the curls will be. You may need to do smaller sections if you have thicker hair. I like to curl my extensions and the rest of my hair separately but if you find it easier to do it while they are in, that works too! When you are finished use Hair spray again to seal the curls

Step 4: Leave the curls the way they are for at least 10 minutes, you can leave them for longer if you would like. After that use a large hair brush and brush them out. Continue to do this until you go from tight curls to loose waves. Depending on your hair type you might not even need to use a brush. If you have really thick dry hair you might be able to get away with using just your fingers to loosen the curl.

Step 5: I like to backcomb my hair at the roots to give it a little more volume. If you have a lot of volume to begin with, or like a sleeker look you can skip this part.

Step 6: Add a flower crown. Nothing is more perfect for a festival than a flowers!

Truself Organics

Lately I’ve been really focusing on finding skin care products that are natural and safe for my skin. It’s really unsettling how many products there are available that contain chemicals and unsafe ingredients. Recently i’ve been going through my bathroom and my makeup bag and scanning everything with an app I downloaded called Think Dirty, to see what’s good and whats not so good for my body.

I’ve recently started using some products by Truself Organics and i’m really impressed with them. The company it’s self has a great mission and their products are all organic, all-natural, and cruelty free. That’s pretty awesome if you ask me! In particular i’ve been using the detoxifying mask and it’s been a great addition to my skin care regimen. My skin has been breaking out a bit lately and I’ve found that this mask has been very helpful in fighting that. If you would like to try it for yourself check out their website at and use the discount code “THEFOXANDFERN15” for 15% off your purchase!
